Dr. Marins explains the main types of consulting services he has been providing to dozens of companies:

 1.    The first type of consulting service that I have been providing consists on meetings, which can be held either at my office in Sao Paulo or at restaurants, where we have an extensive discussion during lunch or dinner. I have some clients with whom I sit down for about two-hours on a monthly basis, and other clients who prefer four-hour meetings, for instance. At these meetings, the client describes the organization’s activities as well as the difficulties they have been encountering. Then, with the experience of working with numerous companies in different industries for more than 30 years, I give the client my view on the subject as well as suggestions and methods for confronting the challenges, improving the weaknesses, and strengthening the organization’s virtues and positive indicators. In addition, with this form of consulting service, I am always available to the client (via phone, e-mail, etc.) to provide any additional guidance and support for the project.

 2.    The other type of consulting service consists on meetings intended for thorough discussions and the development of strategic plans in order for the organization to overcome its obstacles and achieve its goals. The meetings can be of one or two full work days, from 9 a .m. to 5 p.m. held at a place designated by the client (usually out of the main offices) with the participation of the organization’s entire upper management team. Through a unique and exclusive methodology, I conduct the participants through a discussion and analysis of all aspects of the organization – from sales and marketing, opportunities and threats, to the development  of human resources and how to increase people’s commitment to the organization’s success. At these meetings, the participants discuss thoroughly the focuses and goals of the organization, and how to achieve them. In addition, they discuss strategies and a methodology that will lead them to the proposed objectives. At the end of the meeting, the organization will have a comprehensive document containing its goals and objectives, focuses and strategies to achieve them, along with the designation of responsibilities and accountability as well as time limits for each stage of the plan. After such exercise, I can monitor and provide guidance in order to ensure that each step is been carried out by the organization and its leaders as planned. Companies that have had this meeting include: InBev, Brazilian Association of FIAT Dealerships, Electrolux, Don Laurindo Winery, International Paper, Penalty Sports, Sementes Selecta, Tigre S.A., “O Estado de S. Paulo” newspaper, among hundreds of others in Brazil and internationally. The entire meeting for discussions and strategic planning takes at least two days. A condensed meeting can be done in one day, with less substantial and less detailed results. The one-day meeting can also apply to small organizations.

3.    The third type of service is based on the Blue Ocean Strategy, developed by the INSEAD professors W. Chan Kim and Renée Maugborne, which is the world's most contemporary strategic planning theory. We have implemented this type of strategy in many companies, such as Rodobens Consorcio, Sementes Selecta, Lucia Tucci Advogados, among others. The Blue Ocean Strategy leads the company to think and act in such a distinctive manner that the strategic moves make the competition irrelevant.

4.    Another consulting service focuses on the EXECUTION: how to get things done in the organization, from theory to the actual practice. This type of service consists on helping the company to effectively execute its plans and budgets. One of the biggest corporate problem is the distance between theory and practice, planning and execution. Things just don't happen the way they should. Through this type of consulting service, we give the company's leadership specific orientation on how to make things happen.

5.    The fifth type of service consists on assisting the orgazation in developing an efficient feedback and performance appraisal system. Research shows that people are not often evaluated and don't receive as much feedback as they should. Without proper appraisals and feedback, execution is affected, and people feel constantly unmotivated.
